Ticket tiers, early bird pricing, group tickets, coupons, and pricing strategy
Ticket tier types
Tikxz lets you create multiple ticket tiers per event. Each tier is independent — its own name, price, quantity, and availability window. Attendees see all currently active tiers at checkout and pick one.
| Tier Type | Price | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | Fixed INR amount | Your main ticket — the default offering |
| Early Bird | Discounted, auto-expires | Rewarding people who commit early |
| VIP | Premium price | Special access, reserved seating, speaker passes |
| Group | Covers 2+ attendees | Teams, families, college squads registering together |
| Free | ₹0 | Open events, sessions with no ticket price |
| Custom | Any price, any name | Student discounts, press passes, staff tickets |
Creating a ticket tier
Navigate to Dashboard → Your Event → Pricing → Add Tier to create a new ticket tier. Fill in all relevant fields:
- 1
Tier Name: Keep it clear and meaningful — "General Admission", "Early Bird", "VIP Pass", "Student Ticket". This is what attendees see at checkout.
- 2
Price: Enter the price in INR. Enter 0 for a free tier. Prices cannot include paise — whole rupees only.
- 3
Quantity: Total seats available for this tier. Leave blank for unlimited. Once quantity is exhausted, the tier auto-closes.
- 4
Per-Person Limit: Maximum number of tickets a single buyer can purchase. Set to 1 to prevent bulk buying. Set to 5 for group scenarios.
- 5
Availability Start Date: When this tier becomes available. Useful for staggering tier releases.
- 6
Availability End Date: When this tier stops being available, regardless of remaining quantity. Use this for Early Bird expiry.
- 7
Save the tier. It appears immediately in your pricing list.
Early bird tiers
Early bird tiers are standard tiers with an expiry condition. You can set an expiry by date, by quantity sold, or both. The first condition to be met closes the tier automatically.
- Date expiry: Set the Availability End Date. The tier disappears from checkout the moment that date passes, regardless of remaining seats.
- Quantity expiry: Set a low seat count (e.g., 50). When those 50 slots fill up, the early bird tier shows as sold out and attendees move to the next active tier.
- Both: The tier closes on whichever comes first — date or sold-out quantity.
After an early bird tier closes, make sure your Standard tier is already active. There should never be a gap where no tier is available.
Free and group tickets
Free tickets: Set price to ₹0. The attendee goes through the standard registration form and receives a confirmation email with a QR code ticket. No payment is involved, and no KYC is required to offer free tiers.
Group tickets: One purchaser fills out the form and pays for a group. Configure:
- Minimum group size: Smallest number of attendees per purchase. Usually 2.
- Maximum group size: Largest allowed group. Prevents one person from registering 50 attendees under a group rate.
- Each attendee in the group gets their own QR code ticket for check-in.
- The purchaser enters details for all attendees in the group during checkout.
Coupon codes
Coupons let you offer discounts to specific people without changing the public ticket price. Navigate to Dashboard → Your Event → Pricing → Coupons to create and manage them.
- 1
Click Add Coupon
- 2
Code: Enter the coupon code (e.g., EARLYTEAM25). Attendees enter this at checkout. Case-insensitive.
- 3
Discount Type: Choose Flat (₹ off the ticket price) or Percentage (% off). Note: flat discounts on ₹0 free tiers don't make sense — coupons only apply to paid tiers.
- 4
Discount Value: The amount (₹ or %). Percentage discounts cannot exceed 100%.
- 5
Usage Limit: Total number of times this coupon can be used across all attendees. Leave blank for unlimited.
- 6
Expiry Date: When the coupon stops working. The code will be rejected after this date even if the usage limit hasn't been reached.
- 7
Save. The coupon is active immediately.
| Coupon Field | Example Value | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Code | ALUMNI20 | Share via email or WhatsApp to target group |
| Discount Type | Percentage | Flat or Percentage |
| Discount Value | 20 | 20% off — or ₹200 off if flat |
| Usage Limit | 50 | Only 50 people can use this code |
| Expiry Date | 15 Oct 2025 | Code stops working at midnight on this date |
How tiers display to attendees and pricing strategy
All active tiers are displayed to attendees on the event registration page in the order you have arranged them. Sold-out tiers show a "Sold Out" badge. Expired tiers are hidden entirely.
- Order matters: Put your most prominent tier first. Usually that's Early Bird or Standard — not VIP (showing the most expensive option first can deter people).
- Fewer tiers convert better: 2–3 tiers is the sweet spot. Seven tiers causes decision paralysis.
- Name your tiers descriptively: "Early Bird — Limited Seats" is clearer than "Tier 1".
- Per-person limits: Set a per-person limit of 1 on limited tiers to prevent bulk booking of discounted slots.
- Always have a fallback: If your early bird sells out, your standard tier should be active. Never leave attendees with zero available tiers.
